Welcome back to my second update! Brace yourself, this will be ten times more exciting than the last one... Just kidding, you can sit down. There's no reason to panic, it was a very boring week.
This past week, not to brag, the weather has been wonderful. Like any good midwesterner does when the weather gets nice, I cleaned. I could feel the seasonal depression being lifted off my shoulders as my plants finally received the sunlight they needed. To start off, I put my dishes away, then washed the ones in the sink, then cleaned the counters, then cleaned the bathroom, then cleaned the coffee area, then cleaned the stove, then moved the laundry and folded it, made the bed, and even put the living room together.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Nolan, honey, why are we not staying in one spot and moving through the house with some kind of order?" And that, my friends and family, is a wonderful question. I have no clue. That was just the order my mind decided to clean things in so that's what we went with. I can assure you, when I finally sat down and thought about how I cleaned I was just as puzzled as you. But alas, I am single man in my early twenties, I don't think I am supposed to have a rhyme or reason currently.
When I was not cleaning, I was out enjoying the weather. This included getting my fingerprints done for a new job (that I may be able to share more on later), running to the grocery store, and just simply existing. On Tuesday, I went to lunch with my friend Julia and we saw the movie "Companion." For those not interested in thrillers, blood, and violence, I would not recommend that movie for you. I will say, I thought it was funny and a bit gruesome here and there. Overall, it was an amazing movie and I would say giving it watch – you can always leave if you don't like it!
For those who do not know, I have also been training for a half marathon this upcoming March. It is the weekend before my birthday, so I will be running this to prove to myself that I can accomplish whatever I set my mind too. Keep looking for updates on that because I am thinking about a special project to ensure that my family is able to cheer me on without being there. In order to do that though, I do have to think some other things through. We'll see if I can accomplish that as well (I'm sure I can with a little push).
Anyways, a bunch of you have asked what my place looks like and how I am enjoying it. I will attach a video below of my place so you are able to see it for yourself. Additionally, I am loving it here. I do miss home, my siblings, and seeing all of you on a somewhat normal basis, but I don't think I would have been able to explore much back home. Here, there is always something going on. A protest, a play, concert, museums swapping out exhibits for something new, neighborhood farmers markets, etc. I cannot wait for you all to come visit sometime in the future!
Welcome to mi casa! The wall above the TV will soon house my University of Michigan diploma and my ribbon. I will also case my tassel from my cap, as well as a Science Award cord that I received from one of my favorite teachers at the end of my high school career – that award has traveled with me from Vandy, to Ann Arbor for college, and now to D.C. It reminds me that I have to keep pushing forward.
I will also be replacing the bottom two rows of my picture wall with ones of friends and family. I hope to get that done soon, but in all honesty that may indeed be a spring cleaning kind of thing. I guess we will see!
